It’s a funny thing— naming things that is. For Imani and I, it was a struggle coming up with the right words to describe this playlist. The elements of vibrant vocals, and somewhat tragic lyrics, leaves us in the middle ground of a teenage pop song and a somber summer’s day.
In this episode titled Poppy Soul, we explore 5 very diverse songs within the realm of pop and soul, many of which mingle in individual songs. These songs capture many different emotions ranging from heartbreak and failed love, to that feeling of looking forward to meeting someone after a long day, even the simple excitement you feel when you are being told a story. Each of these songs tells the story with a certain juxtaposition that can only be understood by listening.
Justin J. Moore starts us off at number one with his song Someone Who Loved You Can, we then delve into sounds by LA native Gold Man and his song Wild Ones and following those, at number three, we have a poetic piece called Fool’s Gold by Smallz featuring Joey. After that we get lost in the soothing, soulful song, Come Thru, presented to us by Hailes featuring Jonathan Singletary and we then wrap up by listening to a rather different sound by Sunny and Black Pack titled Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy this extremely eclectic, poppy, and soulful playlist.
