Siapha - THE FEEEL TAPES [SwanoDown Report]

Reported by Grayson Jones

Siapha’s artistry shines through his commitment to creating immersive musical experiences that extend beyond just sound. Drawing inspiration from legends like Michael Jackson, Siapha is known for his captivating visuals, which he describes as integral to enhancing his music. “It’s always been beyond the music,” he says, emphasizing that visuals allow him to create something bigger, a whole experience. He envisions his music videos as short films, packed with storIes  and characters, even if “people don’t necessarily have a long attention span” today.

The commitment to craftsmanship behind their latest album THE FEEEL TAPES is equally evident in their approach to the production process. We asked Siapha (or Stephen) how the visuals come to be and he mentioned he often lets the music guide the visuals, allowing the songs to be nearly complete before brainstorming visual concepts. Describing his process, he mentions, “I like how everything would be cohesive anyway,” making sure each element complements the music’s narrative and mood.

We think Stephen’s methods are thoughtful and meticulous. He not only produces his tracks but also experiments with multiple beat variations. Reflecting on THE FEEEL TAPES, he shares, “Most of these songs went through at least two beat changes… Really  tried to make sure we were still making more beats.” This dedication to evolving his sound keeps his work fresh and top tier, allowing him to connect deeply with his listeners.

Siapha also dreams of translating his studio recordings into dynamic live performances with a full band, a goal rooted in his love for live albums. He’s clear that while building a cohesive live show takes time, it’s worth it for the spontaneity it brings to his music. His advice to emerging artists is similar to others yet just as powerful: “The person who’s consistent will always be on top,” For Stephen, it’s this blend of artistry, persistence, and vision that defines his creative journey.
