NOT A TOY- BAD MOOD (Track Review)

Written by Imani Wj Wright

Did I add this song to my playlist? Of course I did. Are we listening to the same record?

Right off the bat, the Travis Scott-esque intro grabs your attention. It’s spacy, melodic, and builds a great deal of anticipation. Once the track officially drops, it hits pretty hard, but not too abrasively. The vocals are smooth, and glide quite effortlessly throughout. ‘BAD MOOD’ by NOT A TOY is one of those records which you can play on blast in your car, or turn down low while you’re vibing out on a Tuesday night. You can enjoy this piece in many facets.

“I lied about doing better, I love it when you’re jealous,” is one of my favorite lines in this piece. Whether we want to admit it or not, most of us of a certain age have experienced this phenomenon. And if you haven’t, you’ve either never felt deeply for someone, or have just been blessed enough to dodge this situation (lucky bastards). The hook is already catchy as well. So when you side-by-side it with a slick vocal performance and relatable lyricism you get a bad track like this. Believe it or not, I wrote that last sentence with no pun intended.
