Mandia-Took So Long (Track Review)

Written by Grayson Jones

A watched pot never boils, just as anticipation never accelerates the speed of time. Mandia takes a moment  to reconcile with her boyfriend after some time apart. In Took So Long, we have the privilege to get to understand Mandia’s personality traits in a relationship. Personally I believe that happiness should be found within one’s self, only then can you convene with your significant other to share each other’s happiness in harmony. Relying on someone else for your happiness is a form of selfishness. But we all do it. “What took you so long to get here?” “ I don't know how much longer I could wait.”

Love is a drug in itself, but what has begun to develop a pull to me, is the emotional delivery behind Mandia’s voice. Something about the notes coupled with the lyricism being so relatable to common colloquialism makes me ooze like “oh she missed me.” And, being wanted is a common emotion I feel comes hand-in-hand with the atmosphere in this song.

Instrumentally, the dynamic within the song shows a level of sophistication and creativity. Took So Long, only compliments the delivery behind Mandia’s compositional theme. The bass of the track is derived from a deep vocal that reminds us of the vibrato from a popular song released in 1996 by Ginuwine. If you listen closely, you can hear the deep bass behind the song, Took So Long takes a "Major-key" approach. This track is something to enjoy and you must be able to relate. If you can’t— you’re missing out. ‘Took So Long’ out now.
