One of my favorite styles of Hip Hop is where artists float on instrumentals that take sounds from other "types" of music. KaMahri has a beautiful swagger that is seen in the way she paces her lyrics to the instrumentation. It seems like it happens all the time, artists rushing their verses. But for KaMahri, she can shift the weight of her lyrics, adjusting her inflection and tone.
I remember when I first heard Lil Keed and Lil Gotit... Although we as listeners were experiencing the inflection/dynamics that Young Thug pioneered in this era of rap, Keed and Gotit seemed to have a certain type of control over it. I say that to say this, KaMahri seemed to have mastered this vocal range at a young age. Don’t Let ME Drown was my first example of her talent and control, but I continued down the Mahri rabbit hole and checked out her debut album You Hate Roses and I was thoroughly impressed.
Check out Don’t Let Me Drown.
