Johnny Franchino: More Than an Artist [SwanoDown Report]

Written by Imani Wj Wright

"Every human has four endowments - self awareness, conscience, independent will and creative imagination. These give us the ultimate human freedom... The power to choose, to respond, to change." — Stephen Covey

What else could you possibly want from an artist who gives not only their all artistically, but emotionally, physically, and intellectually? There are certain people in this world who retain a certain level of dedication/greatness that goes beyond their given craft.

When you look at a polymath such as Johnny Franchino, you get a true look into what it means to be dogged and resolute. The artist, model, and mental health advocate has some of the most humble confidence I've come across during my time covering public figures, Franchino's abilities to enthusiastically  command tracks like "Call My Name" and "VIP" don't take away from his humility and overall focus of- the people.

"For me, music has been a huge contributor to my mental health. You know, at my lowest moments, music has pulled me outta my darkest moments and vice versa. You know, my music has been able to help others, and lift up their energy as well. I think that works in general because, you know, the vibrations of music, they create dopamine within us," Franchino explained.

Franchino's tracks can leave you introspective, or they can keep you dancing. What one can interpret from Franchino as an artist is his time/effort. Each and every track is composed in a manner that just screams to the audience: "This is for you, and I put my all into this for you."

Franchino gave SwanoDown some insight on his songwriting process.

"[My songwriting process]
varies actually. I'm a Gemini, so I'm all over the place. I can write a song where I'm not actually feeling the emotion I'm presenting. Sometimes you may step in a role or step into a feeling that you had at a certain time, or you also may relate to others who may be feeling that way in the moment. And it could be anything. I could have a flow in my head, right? And I can build off that flow without having a beat or I hear a beat," Said Franchino.

"That beat can influence me. I can freestyle as well. I come from a background of freestyling and battle rapping. So that has been a process that I'm very familiar with- freestyling and an orchestration of thinking off the cuff. So, a little bit of everything, honestly. It just depends on at that moment of how, I'm influenced to create," Franchino stated with a noticeable smile on his face.
