Harold Battiste Jr.- Alone In The Stars (Track Review)

Written by Imani Wj Wright

I was in the office today, and let me tell you, this piece changed the entire mood. Today was already going well, but Harold Battiste Jr. added that extra layer of sophistication and ambiance that turns good days to great ones.

The opening moments of this track feel like a dream. A setting so perfect, it's straight out of Hollywood. Picture this: It's night, and the moonlight is hitting just so perfectly from outside your window, the temperature is to your liking, and the blankets are covering you gently. It's a seemingly perfect night.

But wait- there's something missing, something out of place. Oh that's right, Alone In The Stars is not on. Did you put in on? Perfect, now everything's in place.

Hi my name is Jane McNealy and I wrote « Alone in the Stars. » Harold Battiste Junior was a mentor of mine for many years. He was a magical talent, and I learned a great deal of things from him over the years – in this particular song, for example, I played all the keyboards and arranged the song, and Harold played the sax (obviously). He would do the arrangements on many other songs and play other instruments, but in this particular song with the exception of the drum machine, I played all the other instruments. I wanted to thank you for your wonderful review of the song and I’m glad that it made your day. Best, Jane.
