If you've ever been to a large baptist church, you may know that there are moments where the church's band, choir, and praise dancers almost feel like a full-fledged concert. I say this to say, I've heard many spiritual songs in my day, but I've honestly heard nothing like Gabby Poli's "He Was Pleased", from her project, Deeper Waters.
Poli's singing performance is gorgeous- dare I even say heavenly. Though, that's not what takes this piece over the edge. It's Poli's songwriting that makes "He Was Pleased" so phenomenal. If you're not listneing close enough, you'd may be fooled to think this is a love song. Well, maybe it is, but not in the traditional way that you're thinking about it. Poli describes how God is pleased with what he created, as she simultaneously displays her devout love for God.
Poli gives us quite the vicarious experience.
