Carter James- Sightseer (Track Review)

Written by Miles Monroe II

Music is always going to be a safe haven for your inner thoughts, because others will feel the same way. As music is an artist's therapy, it’s therapeutic for the listener as well. Carter June’s latest single, Sightseer, depicts the challenges for a person who may feel stuck in a place (mental/physical). You have to always check on those around you, even if they are telling you how fine they are. We can’t go into someone’s brain and figure it out. There needs to be a line of communication when people we love aren’t in the best mental state and give them encouraging words to help them through. Sightseer creates that space while the artist becomes vulnerable with the audience.

James does a good job of characterizing his experiences while making the song an enjoyable listen. You see the growth as you listen to the piece, something that can give hope to those who are in that same thinking space. Carter is letting us know there is a way out of a mental thought process that consumes you in a negative way. It isn’t easy, but he continues to fight everyday to live his life the way he wants to. Sightseer sits as a song for those who might want to seek help, but don’t know where to start. Press play and start the journey.
