Capturing Attention Through Voice: Ciara Payne [Report]

Reported by Imani Wj Wright

“When a voice actor shifts their focus on to the listener and off of themselves, their instrument (voice and body) has freedom from their mind to fully express itself.” – Rosemary Chase, Voiceover coach

Have you ever been watching a commercial on TV or listening to an advertisement on a streaming platform, and were immediately drawn in by what you hear? The first thing you’re most likely captutred by isn’t the content of what’s being said, but how it’s being said. It’s something that companies think of extensively when they’re looking to grasp the emotions/attention of their potential audience. Now, that’s where the talent of voice actors/actresses like Ciara Payne come in.

Born in London,  Ciara Payne has been residing in the Southwestern Ireland town of Killarney for the past 18 years. Being ambitious, steadfast, and persevering, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Payne began her training as a voice actress in 2020. And on brand with her DIY style, Payne began her journey not in an elaborate studio- but in a handmade vocal booth.

Regardless of her  humble setup. Payne’s sheer ability and dogged work has put her in the position to be the protégé of highly notable names such as: Michael Fassbender and Crispin Freeman. If you listen to some of Payne’s work, it becomes more than evident that she has what it takes to make a script come to life. Her varying accents, clarity, and sense of inflection make her an easy candidate for major production companies and even fledgling ones to hire her. This isn’t just our opinion though- Payne’s portfolio speaks for itself. Recently, Payne has been featured on Fallout: London, and can also be found with voiceover work on platforms including: Amazon, Youtube, Steam, Xbox, Playstation and in Forbes and the BBC.
