I feel as if I am exiting a plane and being greeted into a new country, Sad Boy Land. Enter, Brevin Kim. The latest entry in their catalog, I Need Water / He Doesn’t Love Her, navigates towards the rock/trap/alternative music that has been growing, over the last couple of years. It’s reminiscent of Blackbear and Trippie Redd, both artists whom I am huge fans of... that makes me excited for this group.
I will give Brevin Kim credit when it’s due, I Need Water / He Doesn’t Love Her, doesn’t sound like anything that’s out right now and currently trending. It’s a sound within a genre that I think can thrive in the music industry. This reminds me of when Yeezus came out seven years ago. We were all shocked because this isn’t the style of Kanye we were used to. But- In reality, it was everything he stood for, creating another sound that is built for the long haul.
While they didn’t create the genre they live in, they operate on their own terms. Brevin Kim is giving their audience the yin and yang of love. We travel in their brains, analyze their thoughts and have a good time in the process. I expect to see more music from them in the future.
